Amelia walked briskly to the dragon rock thing . . . well, whatever they called it. She had been told it was interesting, so she snuck out of her father's house, the military chief advisor, to see it. The beautiful and scar riddled brunette prayed know one noticed she was missing . . . there had been rumors that she was having an affair with one of the new solders (who don't have women around them for a reason). She had heard her father speaking with another military official about the matter, and he had said that he had spoken with the king about the matter. The very thought made her stomach churn. Having the king on your bad side was horrible.
Her blood red dress shimmered as she walked along the edge of the gorge stealthily, too high for the rotting flesh to be smelled. Her hair was down, as usual, and the 19 year old's figure was complemented in the moonlight. Her icy blue eyes scanned the rocks, and spotted an extremely tall figure ahead. Amelia quickly darted behind a boulder out of pure instinct. Being an assassin makes you alert to those sorts of things.

Melkor had had trouble going to sleep, so he decided to take a midnight walk to his favorite place; Dragon's Rock. He slowly made his way over to the rock and was looking for a good spot where he could lie down and look up at the stars. His mind was wandering back to the charcoal black dragon that had fought so many times under him (for he flew into battle) and who gave him the scars which are forever burned into his skin. His eyes had become used to the darkness and he sensed movement. His dark blue eyes caught a flicker of movement towards the gorge, and instantly, all thoughts of his dragon had been put aside, and adrenaline pumped its way through his veins. He put his hand on his sword and silently moved toward the source. With his other hand, he picked up a rock and chucked it to the left side of the rock while he turned on the right side of the rock. (keep in mind that darkness is covering him like a cloak) Shhing In one swoop, his sword was out and pointed towards the dark figure of the enemy. "Don't move a muscle, fool," Melkor hissed quietly, angrily, and coolly.

Amelia heard the rock fall and froze her hand placed on her dagger. She was ready to kill. A sword was swung in her direction, and the pretty girl froze. He had gotten to her first. She was about to attack when he had spoke, and The sound of his voice made her gasp.
"My lord," she said gasping for the air she hadn't been breathing. Amelia was partly hoping he wouldn't kill her, and also hoping he didn't think she was meeting the soldier she was believed to be having an affair with at the dragon rock tonight.
She slowly put away her dagger. "My lord, it is I, Amelia." she said. The girl wanted to bow, but he might slit her throat if she made any sudden movements.

A grunt escaped the king's mouth and he stepped back a step. "Prove it, Amelia," was all he said. His mind was racing with many different ideas, one important one came to light. So this is my head assassin sneaking out in the middle of the night when there are rumors going around that she is having an affair with one of my soldiers? Have fun getting your self out of hot water. His body was still tensed, ready for her to flee or fight if she dared. "And your father knows you are here tonight? I'm sure he'd love to know." Melkor said, a little bit of humor was hinted in his voice. His eyes lit up with mischief. Yes, he hated women, but this one was of use to him and his country so he didn't hate her... yet.

"Well . . . I'm not exactly sure how to prove myself." she said, slightly ashamed. "You may feel the scars down my neck if you must." she commented, as the lighting was very dim.
His next question made her shrink. "No sir." Amelia said, almost at a whisper. "My father does not know that I am here nor that I am out." She prayed to God he didn't tell her father that she was out. Lord knows the amount of trouble she would be in.
It always made her wonder what her grandparents looked liked, because she looked nothing like her mother and father. I mean . . . She was used to calling them mom and dad, but she had always noticed their strong differences. And speaking of genetics, Amelia was always amazed at how tall her King was. It was almost abnormal, of course he wasn't the normal sort.

"I shall not touch you, Amelia. I believe that you are her, and that you'd better made some offer to me that will keep my mouth shut so I don't accidentally say something about you being out to your father. Come, child, let us sit under the stars. I assume that there is a very good reason that you are here tonight?" Melkor's voice was low and kind. He beckoned with his hand and walked over to the rock and finally found his favorite rock and sat down.
"I wonder where they go to hunt and eat. I only see them if they want to be seen," he wondered aloud. Very quietly aloud.

She followed him, confused. The girl had never heard him speak in that tone . . . They had only really ever spoken of killing. "Nothing comes to mind that I can offer you, my Lord." she said quietly, sitting next to her ruler. She sighed at his next question. "I came out here because I've been told that is is quite an interesting place to visit." Wow. That reason sounded so made up she almost laughed at herself, only it was true. She snuck out of the house to see a rock. Just . . . wow.
"My Lord?" she asked, as he had made the almost silent comment to himself. They. Who are they?

"You came here to see this? I'm surprised you haven't seen it before, but it is something. Carved out by the whispering flames of the dragons.Child, there is always something to offer when your reputation is at stake. Information is always a deal maker. I'll let you off the hook if you can tell me about your self." He picked up another loose stone and was playing with it in his hand. He had not wanted to answer Amelia's question because he was slightly embarrassed for letting his mouth slip and saying it allowed.

"Myself?" Amelia hardly thought the topic had any importance but . . . she would have to answer his question anyway. "Ok, I like weapons. I've killed hundreds of people . . . Uh, I think you're an amazing leader and very tall . . . It bothers me that I look nothing like my parents so I guess I just resemble my grandparents. Is that enough?" she asked. Amelia felt awkward telling all of this to the king. She had never dreamed she would be speaking to him in such a way.
She looked up at the sky. It really was an amazing place, and she was glad she had come. Being here, next to the king talking like this made her slightly uneasy though, and she hoped that she hadn't said the wrong things.

"I noticed that too. Perhaps you did look like your grandparents. Yes, that's enough. You see, being the king, you get to deal with everything and you never get to hear about anyone else's life. Just as Melkor looked up, the silhouette of a dragon flew above them towards the castle. The king got to his feet ans added, "Its been a good midnight walk, but I have business to attend to." With a surt nod he started walking briskly back to the castle.

Amelia sprung upward as the king did. She too saw the shillouite of a dragon. "Then . . . I guess that's good night my Lord," she stated staring blankly at her king as he walked away. Never before had she had a conversation like that before, and she was merely bewildered. Why was he not going to tell her father? Personal information is all he needed? And why was he so nice all of a sudden? Amelia didn't know what to do, so she just stood there, in awe and shock. The thought of how she was going to sneak back into the house never crossed her mind.

The dragon landed 20 feet sway from Dragon rock with a big thump. The king said something in dragon whi'd translate to, "How was the flight? Any new news on the numbers of the Griffons and their allie's land?" the king spoke with a need-to-know- right now tone in his voice and walked to him to untie the message from his leg. The black dragon was very well muscled and very big for a dragon. He immediately stiffened as a gentle breeze blowed carrying Amelia's scent to him. His nostril's flared and a little bit of fire came out of his nose. "Who is this, Melkor? What girl have you put to shame now?" the dragon growled, baring his teeth slightly at the girl

She backed away slightly, carful not to fall over the edge of the gorge. This black dragon was such a magnificent beast, and one that she would probably never be able to touch.
"S-sorry if I interrupted anything." she said as the dragon barred his massive teeth. However, the girl wasn't scared of the dragon, but the king, hence her apology. She smoothed her dress, passing the knife she had as she straightened the blood colored fabric. Amelia knew a knife would do her no good against a dragon, but it was merely reassurance.

Both the Melkor and his dragon were speechless in surprise. How did she know what he was saying? Was she not scared to death? Then another thought came to mind, Stupid girl. I told her that I had business to attend to and she stayed right there and ease dropped! She'll His thoughts were interrupted by a curious growl by the beast with the bared teeth. "You can understand me? Who are you?" and he added more threateningly, "why have you came here?" He cautiously took another step toward the girl. He saw that he had the advantage of wings and that she was backed up to the cliff. Tough luck he thought to himself.

They looked awestruck for some reason, and Amelia started to get a little scared.
"Well yes . . . apparently so." she added confused she could understand the winged beast. "I am Amelia, and my Father is commanding officer of the military. I came here because some of my friends said it was an interesting place to visit." she said, voice calm but quiet. "I'm so sorry," she said, beginning to take a step back to her home. Apparently she had unsettled the dragon and the king.
